Watching TV for free online. (Channel 4od and ITV.com)

The Uk is now watching more TV than ever an average of 4 hours per day! But more and more TV is being watched online thanks to broadband which is in more than half of homes across the country.

So whats on offer?

Channel 4 have recently launched 4od their on demand service. I just started using it last week and it’s great, you need to download and install a bit of software but that only takes about 10 minutes in total and you also need to register a few details as well.
You then have access to many of Channel 4’s programmes that have been aired in the last week, they are all free to watch and there are no adverts. One of the things I like is the fact that you can watch the programme either in streaming format or you can download it first then watch it if you internet connection is not fast enough to cope with streaming movies-
You can also purchase older programmes at a cost of 99p per programme.

ITV is about to launch ITV.com in the next few weeks, giving you access to 4 ITV channels and 30 day catch up of previously aired programmes, and by the end of the year ITV will have uploaded 200’000 hours of classic programming. Everything on the site will be free to watch in return for you watching some advertising.

Alluc.com is a useful portal website where you can type in the name of a programme you are looking for and it will check websites like youtube.com, veoh.com etc and collate a list of links to video clips of your programme.

And not to forget the BBC they want a chunk of the action and it is thought they will probably put a selection of old BBC programmes on their site too.

Overall the futures looking good for online TV!
