How to save money on your car insurance

June 7, 2007 – 8:00 pm

If it’s that time of year again and you need to renew your Car Insurance policy probably what will happen is you get some information through the door from your insurers reminding you the policy is about to run out, if you have a busy life the easiest thing to do is renew the insurance policy with them for another year.

THIS IS A BIG MISTAKE!!!

If you have never shopped around for an insurance policy for a while chances are you could be saving hundreds of pounds on the quote, I have heard of some people halving the price of their quote just from a few minutes work online.

Taking the time to search all of the hundreds of insurance policies from the different brokers would take a long long time so the best thing to do is use one of the insurance comparison sites you constantly see advertised on the TV.

  • Confused.com – very detailed and accurate.
Moneysupermarket.com – quick to use not as detailed as confused but gives you a good ball park figure.
Comparethemarket.com – read my full article on.

All of these comparison websites will give you the same Insurance quote that you would be quote if you went to the Insurance brokers website directly, there are no hidden changes, and they don’t add any commission on to the prices they show you. So they are a good way to save you time online searching for the best price.

Insurance Brokers Price Promise.

Some insurance brokers say that they will actively try to beat your insurance quote, so it’s worth keeping an eye out.

Barclays Car Insurance – promises that if they can’t beat your current insurance renewal quote Barclays will match it and give you £50 on top, provided you are over 25 and have 3 years no claims and your renewal quote isn’t over £100 cheaper than the Barclays price.

Direct Line –

Have you missed any Insurance Brokers out?

If you have searched though all 3 of the Insurance comparison sites above, it is also worth a look at Uswitch and GoCompare they list some other brokers that are not listed on the comparison websites.

Give them a call.

Once you have scoured the internet for the best online insurance quote, the next thing to do is give the cheapest insurance broker you have found a phone and try and haggle the quote down even further. You will be surprised if they want the business that much they will be able to bring the price down even more, so it’s worth the call and most of them have 0800 (free phone) telephone numbers so it won’t cost you anything.
